At the close of the first half of each year
the Business Journal department heads put their thoughts together to create
the special section categories for the following year. It's always a challenge --
coming up with topics we think will be of most interest to our readers.
The stalwart topics -- health care, real estate, banking and finance,
hospitality, education, human resources and transportation -- can't be
replaced. But we are left with some weeks with which we can experiment.
Fifty under 50 is one of those experimental topics. After covering so
many successful business people in the pages of the Journal, we thought it
would be a good idea to pay tribute to those who have accomplished their
goals, or are reaching their goals, before they've turned 50. That magic
year when business people may either reflect, reactivate, reassert, redirect,
recommit or simply revel in their accomplishments.
As for the selection process, in addition to our own research, |

we depended upon the suggestions and recommendations of business leaders
and organizations throughout Westchester county.
You may recognize some of the selectees because of their high profiles
within our community. But there are other entrepreneurs and business people
who have also been busy achieving their goals, and we are delighted to introduce
them to you.
There are so many successful people in Westchester, obviously we could
not include them all in this section. The wonderful response and cooperation we
received convinces me that when we plan our 1998 editorial calendar, 50 under
50 will surely be included.
